Big Smiles and Bigger Impact at SV’s Summer Fun Day Camp
This summer marks the 11th year of the Susquehanna Valley Summer Fun Day Camp—and it’s shaping up to be one of the best yet! For four weeks, the camp becomes a second home to over 150 elementary-age campers, with Liberty Partnerships Program (LPP) student counselors leading the charge.
Grouped by age, campers rotate through hands-on STEAM activities, arts and crafts, and literacy stations—all designed and led by trained LPP student leaders who bring the energy, creativity, and heart that make camp so memorable.
Real Experience for Rising Leaders
For many of our LPP students, this is more than a summer job—it’s a first step into leadership. Thanks to funding from the BOCES Summer Youth Employment Program, LPP counselors are paid to help guide and mentor younger campers. Before the first day of camp, they complete a full week of training in first aid, team building, and food program management, ensuring they’re confident and ready to support a bustling day of activities.
By summer’s end, these students walk away with more than just a paycheck—they gain meaningful experience, real-world skills, and the confidence to take on new challenges throughout the school year.
Special Guests, Special Messages
One of this year's guest speakers was Dispatcher Emmons from the 911 dispatch and emergency services office. Campers and counselors alike learned how to handle emergency situations and the importance of staying calm and communicating clearly. It was a powerful reminder that learning doesn’t stop when the school year ends—it just takes new forms.
Fueling Minds and Bodies
In partnership with the Summer Food Program, campers receive both breakfast and lunch daily to keep them energized and focused. This year the food program also extends to SV summer school, Saber sports programs, and summer enrichment classes, helping nourish students across the district.
The SV Summer Fun Day Camp is more than just fun—it’s a place where curiosity, compassion, and community come together. From kindergartners discovering science to high schoolers stepping into leadership roles, everyone leaves camp with new friendships, new skills, and a renewed sense of purpose.
