Summer break might mean school’s out—but for Johnson City Middle School students in the Binghamton University Liberty Partnerships Program ( BU LPP), the learning and fun are just getting started.
The JCMS Summer Program offers five themed weeks designed to keep students engaged, active, and inspired. Whether they’re racing down the field during Sports Week or exploring waterfalls during Wilderness Week, every activity is planned to build essential life skills in exciting, hands-on ways.
In Film Week, students will work together to script, film, and produce their own short movies—strengthening communication, literacy, and creative thinking.
During Volunteer Week, they’ll experience the impact of giving back through hands-on service projects like park cleanups, pantry work, and assembling care packages, helping them to learn the value of empathy and civic responsibility.
The final week is all about looking ahead. College & Career Week helps students imagine their future paths with workshops on education, jobs, and goal-setting. They’ll connect with college students, professionals, and admissions staff to ask questions and visualize their future.
To celebrate their hard work, the program ends with a field trip to Niagara Falls—a memory-making experience they won’t soon forget.
At its core, the JCMS LPP Summer Program is about building confidence, empathy, and making connections that will last well beyond the summer. With a balance of structure and freedom, students are learning not just what they can do, but who they can become.
